We bring you a hot, cold, sweet, rich, dark and creamy chocolate fix with our guide to the best chocolate in London.

Melt Chocolates

Inhale deeply as you step into Melt Chocolates chocolatiers. This award-winning boutique has kitchens in the shop to get your chocolate senses fired up. Hear melted chocolate caramel bubbling away as it’s stirred. Bite through that hard shell for a cream-filling ooze. This is chocolate at its finest, and the knowledgeable staff are happy to help you find the perfect chocolate flavour combinations. You could join bonbon-making classes, extensive masterclasses and bean-to-melt chocolate-making courses. Yum.

MyChocolate London Workshops

Meet other chocoholics as you learn to make your own chocolate creations at the MyChocolate workshop, just off Shoreditch High Street. Learn how to craft the perfect chocolate truffle, raise a glass to the chocolate cocktail or even embark on a chocolate street challenge – with prizes. Your chocolatier brings expertise and plenty of theatrical fun to proceedings, and you have your pick of workshops. Our favourite is the Luxury Chocolate Making Workshop. This one will fill you with prosecco, personalised chocolate slabs, chocolate martini-shaking skills and a bundle of tipsy truffles to take home.

Melange Chocolate Shop & Cocktail bar

Melange Chocolate in Peckham is famous for its closely guarded hot chocolate recipe, which has won over many critics and visitors. Isabelle Alaya is the creative artisan chocolatier behind this award-winning chocolate haven. She specialises in eclectic flavour combinations for her handmade chocolate bars and truffles. Pop a bergamot and cinnamon dark chocolate truffle or take a bite of a turmeric and truffle oil white chocolate thin. With chocolate tasting drop-in sessions and wine and chocolate pairing evenings, there’s plenty here to get your taste buds tingling.

Charbonnel et Walker

Britain’s Master Chocolatier since 1875, Charbonnel et Walker holds a rare royal warrant for its chocolate. Its speciality dark chocolate is a favourite, which you can taste alongside other luxurious chocolates at the elegant shop in Bond Street’s Royal Arcade. You’ll be revelling in the flavours tasted by an impressive list of famous former customers – think Princess Diana, Lauren Bacall and Noel Coward, who liked his box of chocolates delivered fortnightly to his home. It’s the perfect place to go if you’re looking for a gift box of chocolates to take away.

Chocolate Ecstasy Tours

Take a private walking tour around Mayfair and Soho’s best chocolate spots. Chocolate Ecstasy Tours wander to beautiful patisseries, chocolate shops and royalty-approved chocolatiers. Behind these chocolate tours is the founder, Jennifer Earle, a chocolate expert who judges the International Chocolate Awards among others and has consulted for several chocolate companies. Her passion and expertise ensure these tours satisfy your cravings for knowledge and delicious chocolate.

Dark Sugars

This is Ghanaian hot chocolate heaven, filled with African beats, decor and, of course, plenty of chocolate. Picture a delicious hot chocolate drink topped with an impressive display of curled chocolate shavings. Then discover a world of deliciously indulgent spices, herbs and flavours to give you a sugar high like no other. Dark Sugars has a corner plot in Brick Lane and a four-storey cacao house in Greenwich. It’s the brainchild of Nyanga, who has created a wonderful West African chocolate experience. The hot chocolate is arguably the best in London, and there are plenty of chocolate pearls, pipettes and malakoffs to tempt you.

Venchi Chocolate and Gelato

Get swept up by the aroma of chocolate as you enter this beautiful chocolate and gelato boutique in the heart of Covent Garden. Venchi has been creating mouth-watering chocolate and gelato recipes since 1878. It serves the highest quality artisan chocolates and makes gelato fresh on site every day. The staff are generous with samples if you’re on the hunt for a quick sweet treat or an expert guide through chocolate flavours. There’s a cafeteria on site, so you can sit down and enjoy your chocolate gelato before stocking up on boxes or hampers of chocolate treats.

Artisan du Chocolat

What began in Borough Market in 1999 has since become one of London’s finest chocolate shops. Today, Artisan du Chocolat is in Selfridges as well as in its own delicious chocolate shop in Sloane Square. Once you taste Artisan du Chocolat’s famous salted caramel range, it’s almost impossible not to stock up on them. Ground beans, centuries-old crafting techniques and a thoroughly modern waterjet go into ensuring the delicate chocolate-making process is flawless from start to finish. Expect silky-smooth wonderfulness in every bite.

Cutter & Squidge

A chocolaty afternoon tea with a slice of chocolate cake is always the answer. Certainly, there’s no shortage of chocolate cake on menus across the capital, but Cutter & Squidge serves arguably the best, with soft, creamy chocolate cakes that simply dissolve in the mouth – and made from natural locally sourced ingredients. The flagship café in Soho is the place to go for a real treat – and a wander through the selection of scrumptious chocolate brownie shortbread. Stop by for a thoroughly sweet afternoon tea.

Fortnum and Mason

On the ground floor of this iconic store is a swirl of silk-smooth chocolate glistening like priceless jewels behind glass. You have your pick of 500 varieties of chocolates made by expert chocolatiers you can watch in action at the chocolatier station. Dipped, handmade, hand painted and thoroughly dusted, the chocolates here are exquisite and thoroughly luxurious. There’s also hot chocolate on tap for a pouring of sweet deliciousness.
