Steak emporiums are popping up across London, with customers keen to know their meat is properly sourced, butchered and prepared.

In our quest for the best steak in Covent Garden, we found dining experiences that felt like a night at the theatre, where the meat is the star attraction. These are our favourite stops for a steak lunch, dinner or even bottomless brunch in Covent Garden.

Flat Iron, Covent Garden

The formula is a winner: top quality meat properly sourced and sold at a great price in cool surroundings… oh, and free popcorn when you arrive. What began as a pop-up in Shoreditch, Flat Iron now has multiple steakhouses across London, and this one in Covent Garden hits the spot. The master butcher, inhouse, sources a top-notch cut from the shoulder of the cow for the signature dish, the juicy flat iron steak, with its delicate flavour for just £12. There are sides, too, like beef dripping chips and crispy bone marrow garlic mash, and a healthy assortment of beers and wines to wash it all down.

Steak & Co. Covent Garden

Served sizzling on a hot slab of slate, your meat from Steak & Co comes from sustainable, often small family-run South American producers. This stylish and bustling farm-to-fork steak restaurant near Covent Garden has a strong focus on provenance to guarantee it tastes delicious and is cooked exactly the way you like. It’s not all steak here, though – chicken, fish and a few vegetarian dishes are on the menu, too. We suggest you try the 10oz Finnish grass and chocolate-fed Ayrshire Sirloin, which won Best Steak at the Royal Highlands, Royal Welsh and Balmoral Shows.

Sophie’s Steakhouse

Watch chefs conjure up the perfectly done steak in front of you at Sophie’s Steakhouse, where the beef is native-breed British, dry aged and butchered in house. Large, bright and with big windows on to a cute terrace, this steak restaurant near Covent Garden and round the corner from Piccadilly Circus serves up delicious martini cocktails, too. But the star attraction is in the huge firepit given pride of place in the centre of the restaurant where chefs cook your steak to perfection. If you’re going as part of a group, try the firepit tasting menu cooked asado style, using birch and oak wood.
